Melodia – A Global Music Platform Connecting Cultures
Melodia is a music discovery website that invites users to explore sounds from around the world. The platform brings together genres, countries, and cultural influences in a playful and welcoming way. The aim was to create an engaging space where users can learn, listen, and contribute.
The idea behind Melodia comes from my earlier project Musik i Verden from my first semester as a multimedia designer in Copenhagen. This new version with a new identity allowed me to explore a design direction that was more modern, expressive, and aligned with how people actually enjoy discovering music digitally. Growing up in a Danish and Spanish environment, I was surrounded by songs from different countries, languages and moods. Music has always been a bridge between the cultures I belong to and the ones I admire. Melodia is built on that feeling. A place where strangers meet through sound and where curiosity becomes connection.

The project started with research on users, design trends, and social media strategies. Afterwards, moodboards, style tiles, and wireframes were created in Figma, which helped define the visual identity, structure, and interactions of the platform. Using Framer for development allowed me to focus on translating the design into a polished, interactive website while still keeping full control over the experience.

Melodia was designed to make it easy for users to discover music from all over the world, all in one place. The platform includes genre pages with curated examples, an interactive map with information about each country’s music, and an overview of upcoming concerts. In addition, a contact page invites the users to contribute, correct, or expand the information. They can join the project to help discover new music, add countries that are not yet included, or simply be part of the team, making Melodia a living and collaborative platform.

Working on Melodia was both a creative and technical learning experience. The interactive world map was one of the most challenging elements. I initially tried to build it with JavaScript, but after many attempts it did not behave as I needed. I then rebuilt it with individual SVG paths for each country and created separate hover states for all of them. It was extremely time consuming, but this effort gave the platform its visual and interactive character. In future versions, I would like to explore more efficient ways to achieve the same effect while improving performance and SEO.
Since Melodia covers music from nearly every corner of the world, there may be occasional content inaccuracies. I verified what I could with exchange classmates and international friends, but Melodia is designed to involve users, which is why anyone can contribute, correct, or expand the information directly through the contact form.
Working in Framer allowed me to focus on design quality, yet it also highlighted areas for growth, such as component planning and managing larger-scale interactions. I also hope to further develop my skills in Adobe tools, especially Illustrator, to refine the logo and social media content. Looking ahead, I would like to add a section highlighting upcoming artists, giving new musicians a space to share their work and connect with the Melodia community. Overall, the project reflects my passion for bringing people together through music and creating a shared, global space for discovery.
